Healing Your Relationship with Money

Healing Your Relationship with Money: A Journey of Forgiveness and Abundance

Money. We talk about it, we earn it, we spend it, but do we ever really explore our relationship with it? For so many of us, money is more than just a tool—it’s intertwined with our sense of security, power, and even self-worth.

Yet, beneath the surface, many of us carry feelings of fear, shame, or scarcity when it comes to money.

In a past Creators Circle-MasterHeart session, we peeled back the layers of our relationship with money, uncovering hidden beliefs, releasing shame, and learning how to invite abundance into our lives.

The insights were profound, and it became clear that transforming our relationship with money is not just about numbers—it’s about healing old wounds, making peace with our past decisions, and opening ourselves up to receive.

Embodiment and Money: Tapping Into Self-Love

Tuning into our bodies through an embodiment exercise is one of my favorite ways to ground before diving into deep exploration.

Why? Because the body holds wisdom. As we stretch, breathe deeply, and offer ourselves simple gestures of self-love, we create the perfect space for reflection.

I invite you to take a deep breath in, filling your lungs completely, and let the breath out slowly. As you continue to breathe, allow your body to move intuitively. You might stretch your arms, roll your shoulders, or sway gently—whatever feels right to you in this moment.

Now, bring your hands together and rub your palms to generate warmth. Feel the energy in your hands, and once they’re warm, place them gently on a part of your body that craves attention—your heart, belly, or perhaps your temples. Wherever you choose, let this touch be filled with compassion.

As you hold this space for yourself, silently repeat: “I love you.”

Breathe deeply and feel the warmth from your hands traveling throughout your body, nourishing you with a sense of calm and gratitude.

Take a few more deep breaths, letting the energy of self-love and abundance flow through you. When you’re ready, slowly return to stillness, feeling grounded, grateful, and ready to move forward with clarity.

End by placing your hands over your heart, taking one final deep breath, and saying to yourself: “Thank you, body. I am ready to receive.”

This simple practice grounds you in the present moment, allowing you to connect with your body and open to the energy of abundance and self-care.

Self-love is the foundation of any healthy relationship, including our relationship with money.

The way we care for ourselves can directly reflect how we allow ourselves to experience financial abundance. By releasing physical tension, we set the stage for a more open and expansive conversation about money.

Money Beliefs: What Stories Are We Telling Ourselves?

Next, let's explore one of the simplest yet most revealing questions: “Money is…”

Use this prompt to uncover the story you’ve been telling yourself—stories about money’s role in your life, what it represents, and how it makes you feel.

Take 2 minutes and write without stopping or criticizing. Free-write your response to the prompt: "Money is ..."

Some may see money as power. Others see it as freedom, or even a source of stress.

What came up for you when you read that prompt? Take a moment to reflect. The stories we tell ourselves about money shape our decisions and, ultimately, our ability to receive.

Here is another powerful question: “When I have lots of money, I feel…”

Take 2 minutes and flow write on that.

You may feel excitement or peace, or you may express a sense of fear around losing it.

This exercise shows how money is often connected to our emotions and self-perception. When we’re aware of these patterns, we can start to rewrite them.

Releasing Financial Shame: A Ceremony of Forgiveness

One of the most healing moments comes when we acknowledge the 'not so good choices' we’ve made around money. (Some call these mistakes.)

Let’s be honest—we all have them. Whether it’s overspending, not charging enough, or missing an opportunity, these 'bad decisions' often leave us feeling guilty or ashamed.

But here’s the truth: everyone makes financial choices that don't work out as planned.

From this space, I invite you to a ceremony of forgiveness. Using the powerful Hawaiian practice of Ho‘oponopono, we can release shame and invite peace into our money stories.

To practice: Say aloud, “Money, I love you. Money, please forgive me. Money, thank you. Money, I’m sorry.

By giving voice to these words, we make room for healing the past and building an intimate relationship with mondy.

Write a letter to money and let money write back to you.

This step might take 2-5 minutes. Take your time. Let this flow.

Dear Money,

I'm sorry for ...

Please forgive me for ...

Thank you for ...

I love you for ...

Next, personify money and respond to the letter. Write as money to you. What does money want to say back to you? I'm sorry for ... Please forgive me for ... Thank you for ... I love you for ...

This practice was so powerful for me. I've done it more than once. It revealed so much caring, mutual understanding, partnership, and peace.

Empowerment Through Action: The Path Forward

This isn’t just about money—it’s about empowerment. By healing our relationship with money, we take back control of our choices, our freedom, and our ability to live in alignment with our values.

Money is no longer the thing we fear, chase, or fight with—it becomes a partner in our journey, flowing in and out as we give and receive. When we approach it from a place of gratitude and trust, we open ourselves to greater opportunities for abundance.
